Bread for Life Skils

One of the most meaningful parts of our work with the kids at Casa Hogar is helping them discover their passions, develop new skills, and explore their interests through life coaching and hands-on workshops. From creating art and learning music to working in the garden, playing sports, and even making desserts to sell to our staff, these experiences are all about growth, creativity, and self-discovery.

Last week, the older kids had a special opportunity to have a bread-making workshop. We hosted it in our upstairs workshop room—still a work in progress, but we put it to use nonetheless! Thanks to a generous donation, we have a special bread oven that will eventually serve not just our kids, but women and other beneficiaries of our programs, offering them a chance to learn valuable baking skills.

The father of one of our kids, who used to work in a bakery, came to teach the group how to make pan de dulce (sweet bread). They had a lot of fun learning the process and the delicious aroma of fresh bread quickly filled the whole house. When it was finally time to taste, it didn’t disappoint—the staff agreed it was absolutely delicious!

Our goal is to help the kids not only learn a new skill but also explore the possibility of turning it into a small business venture. We envision them baking and selling their bread to generate a small profit, which can fund future workshops, purchase supplies, and support new projects. It’s about more than just making bread; it’s about building confidence, fostering entrepreneurship, and creating opportunities for growth.
